TUM.Energy is a cross-faculty research initiative of the Munich School of Engineering (MSE). In this, researchers and scientists of different areas are cooperating in order to work on the central topic energy using their individual methods, approaches and knowledge.Thereby an integral view on the relevant tasks is created from which new and innovative approaches derive which will be used in the energy supply of the future. All departments of the university are requested to participate in order to deliver their individual and valuable contribution to this complex task.
The research of the MSE is focussing three different aims:
- Extension of the use of renewable energies
- Electromobility in order to reduce the consumption of fossil fuel and the emission of CO2
- Research and development of technologies to increase the efficiency of energy supply and transport
- Responsible and efficient use of energy especially for building technologies which represent a high share of primary energy consumption
These main topics are represented in networks in which researchers of different faculties are working in detail on the challenges within these fields:
- In the Center for Power Generation the efficiency and the environmental sustainability of existing and future power plants is increased and improved by modern and innovative technologies.
- The Network for Renewable Energy is doing research in both, funamental research in the field of new technologies and materials as well as improvements of existing technologies icreasing their applicability.
- The Science Center for Electromobility contains a wide spectrum of topics from fundamental battery research, development and design of electric vehicles as well as future mobility concepts.
- The Center for Energy Efficient and Sustainable Design and Building is dedicating itself to energy efficiency during the use of buildings and its consideration during planning. Thereby not only technical but also socio-ecologic aspects are integrated in urban planning approaches.
All networks are working interconnected within themselves as well as with each other in order to generate outstanding research results and global solutions. Furthermore, the energy research at the TUM benefits from its academic variety and cooperations to leading companies in the energy sector.
